How can I volunteer and support my community?

There are lots of different types of volunteering roles available, with a variety of different community partners, too. Some roles are one-off and some are more longer term (3 months and more). Some roles are in person, in our local communities, and some roles are remote, and can be done from home. You could be talking to an older person on the telephone once a week, or you could spend 3 hours gardening.at a local community garden. You might want to volunteer in an office, and use your data analysis skills, or, you might prefer to prepare some hot meals for the homeless. There really is something for everyone.

Time commitment

Some of our community partners are looking for more longer term volunteers. This is important for volunteer roles such as befriending or mentoring (in person and telephone), where familiarity is really valuable. However, there are lots of opportunities that can be done on a one-off, or more flexible basis, such as gardening, helping out at a food bank, or event organisation/support.​​​​​

King’s Student Union (KCLSU) also offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities.

You can browse the volunteer directory for current opportunities, create a volunteer profile, and get in touch with a charity or King’s department directly if you see a role you like.
