What is a fee status?
A fee status is assigned to applicants during the application stage to reflect the different levels of tuition fees for our programmes. There are two fee statuses: Home and Overseas. We follow national regulations and guidelines outlined on UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs) about which applicants are permitted to pay a lower rate of fees (Home fees).
How will King's determine my fee status?
Your fee status is determined by several factors, and not just by your nationality or where you currently live. The information on your application will help us assess your fee status. If further information is required to make a final decision, a fee status questionnaire will be sent via King’s Apply. Applicants can also request this.
Further information about the fee status assessment process is outlined in the Admissions Policy (section 8).
If your application to King’s is successful, we will inform you of your fee status via your offer letter on King’s Apply. If you have any questions about your fee status once you have applied, please contact King's Admissions via King's Apply.
Important to know: If you have received an offer of study and wish to have your fee status reassessed, please follow the guidance on the relevant webpage under the heading ‘Fee status reassessment for applicants’:
Post-enrolment, there are limited opportunities to have your fee status reassessed and there are strict criteria surrounding this, therefore, it is important that any concerns you have about your fee status should be raised before accepting your offer and before enrolling.
Can King's determine my fee status before I submit an application?
Will my fee status remain the same for the duration of my studies?
How can I request a review of my fee status post-enrolment?
Before requesting a review of your fee status, please follow the below steps:
Inform yourself of the review process outlined in the Admissions Policy (section 9).
Check that you meet the grounds for a fee status review post-enrolment. This includes the circumstances outlined in Will my fee status remain the same for the duration of my studies? In addition, prior to 31 October of your first or only year of study, you can also request a review of your fee status if you believe a procedural error has been made on your original fee status assessment.
Check that you meet the eligibility criteria for Home fees outlined on UKCISA. You will be asked what UKCISA category/categories you wish to be considered for.
If all of the above is met, complete and submit the Fee Status Review Form. The form is open between 1 September - 31 October each year, for consideration of that academic year’s fees onwards. Outside of this timeframe, reviews will not normally be considered unless there are exceptional circumstances.
If the request is accepted, the Fee Status Review Team will contact you to ask for further information. Requests submitted by 31 October will usually be reviewed between September – December of that year. Outside of this peak reassessment window, the team operates a minimum service level.
Important to know: Students remain liable to pay the amount stated on their tuition fees while undergoing a fee status review.
The fee status review process is only available to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. King’s International Foundation students are not eligible.
Who can I contact for further information?
Prospective applicants to King’s are advised to review the guidance on UKCISA regarding Home fee eligibility. We do not offer an advisory service unfortunately.
Current applicants and offer holders should direct any fee status related questions to the Admissions office via King’s Apply.
Enrolled students wishing to have their fee status reviewed should submit a Fee Status Review Form by 31 October. Information about the process can be found in the Admissions Policy (section 9).
Students can also contact the Money & Housing Advice team for guidance on a range of money matters and Credit Control for any queries regarding paying your fees.
