As outlined in the General Terms and Conditions for Students, tuition fee increases for certain Home students (undergraduate programmes and some postgraduate taught programmes like PGCE) are subject to regulatory control by the UK Government.
Undergraduate Home tuition fees cannot rise above any cap set by the Government, which may be changed from time to time.
If you’re already a current postgraduate taught, postgraduate research or International undergraduate student at King’s, tuition fees will not rise by more than 7% versus the previous academic year for the same course.
If you’re affected by a tuition fee increase, King’s will give you no less than three months’ written notice before the start of the academic year to which the fee increase is intended to apply.
2025 tuition fee increase
The UK Government has announced increases to tuition fees and maintenance loans, effective from the 2025/26 academic year.
As the tuition fee cap has not increased since 2017, the Government has determined that the maximum tuition fee for Home undergraduate students on full-time courses will rise by 3.1% from £9,250 to £9,535, and maintenance loans will also see a 3.1% increase. This is subject to parliamentary approval and detailed information can be found in the Government's announcement on their website.
King’s plans to implement these changes in line with Government policy. Tuition fees for affected Home students (both new students and those returning to start their next year of study) will be £9,535 from September 2025.
How will King’s use the additional income from increased tuition fees?
The additional funds will help to support wider investment to enhance the quality of education and services we provide and ensure King’s long-term financial sustainability.
The increase is the first in eight years and reflects higher costs experienced by the higher education sector due to inflation.
Will loans increase?
Yes, both tuition fee loans and maintenance loans will increase as well, by the same amount of 3.1%.
If you receive the full maintenance loan amount, this equates to an increase of £414.
If you are eligible for a tuition fee loan, your full fee amount will still be covered.
The terms of repayment for tuition fee loans will remain the same. In other words, if you have a tuition fee loan, then this fee increase will result in you continuing to make repayments for slightly longer, rather than repaying a higher amount each month.
Will bursaries increase?
Yes, some bursaries will also increase to provide the same level of support. In particular, the King’s Living Bursary will increase by £400.
