Whether you’re away for the summer or staying in London, it’s a chance to reset and rest. Are you taking time to relax and connect with friends, still working on your studies or have you got work or an internship planned? Whatever it is, hopefully you’re prioritising finding a balance.

Being out of your normal routine can take some adjustment but it also gives you the freedom to create a new one that works for you.

Building a routine

You might enjoy the lack of structure and freedom to do what you want to do, when you want to for a few days but having a routine can help maintain your mood and energy levels over time.

Think about your usual habits and how you can still fit them in. If you normally go to the gym, stick to the same routine by visiting a local outdoor gym at your usual time or mix things up by trying a new workout online. If you need inspiration for keeping fit, check out our tips for staying active over the summer break.

You could try breaking your day into chunks, thinking about what helps you to relax and unwind as well as what you want to achieve. Remember to be flexible, your days and energy levels might vary and it's okay to adapt your schedule.

To begin planning how you'd like to spend your time write down what you want to do and what you need to do in a given period of time - it could be a day, week, or even month.

Start small, what's one habit you'd like to pick up? Now think about how you can fit that into your routine. Perhaps it's reading more, or learning a language, and you have fifteen minutes in the morning or evening to spare. The more regularly you fit this in, the easier it will become.
