Every department has a Staff-Student Liaison Committee or Student Forum that meets at least three times a year. The SSLC (or student forum) is an opportunity for discussion between staff and student academic representatives. It’s a great chance to work closely with staff to improve the student’s learning experience and a big part of how together we can make education better at King’s.
The views of our students are represented by student representatives (reps). The SSLC Student Co-Chair, the SSLC staff Co-Chair, the Senior Tutor and Programme Officer also attend the meetings.
What happens in the meetings?
Discussions in the meetings focus primarily on issues raised by the student reps on behalf of other students. Student reps have the chance to provide ideas and feedback on the student experience.
The Senior Tutor, Head of Department or Senior Programme Officer may be able to offer advice or an immediate solution to a point raised. When more investigation is needed or other members of staff need to be consulted, the Senior Tutor and Senior Programme Officer will look into it after the meeting.
What happens after each meeting?
SSLC Chairs are required by the University to complete a Student Voice Form to record student feedback and actions taken in response. These forms are published on your department’s SSLC KEATS page by your Programme Officer. The form is designed to demonstrate that we are listening to feedback, considering actions and reporting on decisions made.
The aim is that all concerns are promptly addressed and appropriate actions taken where necessary. Occasionally, an issue requiring further discussion will be taken forward to another meeting such as the Departmental Education Committee. If this is the case, the outcome will be relayed to the SSLC at the earliest opportunity.
Your reps are eager to get your feedback so please don't delay in contacting them if you have a point you wish to be raised at the next meeting! Your reps have provided contact details and a brief introduction to themselves on your department’s SSLC KEATS page. You can find links that page in the How can I see my department's SSLC page on KEATS section below.
