Our commitment to Culture, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
During 2024-25, the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) introduced a new five-year Culture, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (CEDI) action plan.
The plan is built around four key principles: fairness, consistency, transparency and accountability
The action plan aims to create lasting structural and cultural change by addressing the causes of inequality. It will:
improve CEDI skills to prepare students for the workplace
provide opportunities for students to practice CEDI and inclusive research
improve CEDI provision across all programmes and ensure all students are equally supported
The IoPPN CEDI Committee, Staff Inclusive Education Partners and the Dean of Education work together to deliver these improvements. They ensure students are educated and inspired through research-informed, internationalised, diverse and inclusive curricula at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Meet the IoPPN CEDI team
The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) Culture, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (CEDI) Core Team and Committee aim to recognise, reflect and represent our community, with representation from all departments.
Our approach to Culture, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is shaped by a co-production ethos that reflects the diversity and needs of the IoPPN community. We use an intersectional approach when considering all protected characteristics, including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation, as well as other characteristics such as socio-economic background and home, EU and international student status.
IoPPN Inclusive Staff Partners Dr Julia Ouzia (undergraduate), Zahra Abdulla (postgraduate taught) and Professor Juliet Foster, Dean of Education, lead a range of inclusive education projects. They work with Student Inclusive Education Partners to co-produce and diversify the curriculum, giving students the opportunity to contribute their ideas and experiences to curriculum design and development.
The IoPPN CEDI Team work closely with the King’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Team.

We welcome collaboration with students on CEDI related events or campaigns, so please get in touch if you have any ideas. If you are also undertaking a research project around culture, equality, diversity & inclusion, we would also like you to present your research to our CEDI Team so please contact ioppn.inclusion@kcl.ac.uk.
You can also contribute to creating an inclusive and welcoming community by signing the IoPPN Code of Conduct. Launched in 2020, it sets out the behaviours and actions expected of everyone in our community to help ensure all members feel seen, heard and included. More than 1,000 members of the IoPPN community have already signed the Code of Conduct, and you can also check whether your lecturers have signed it.
You can find information on how to keep up to date with upcoming events and activities, in the IoPPN: Student Engagement article.
